On the Meaning of Kashshira (the Syriac equivalent of Hanif)
KAF-SHIN-RESH is the Aramaic equivalent of the Hebrew kasher
The form of the adjective as quoted is either feminine indefinite or
masculine definite, but I assume the second is intended. The word does mean
what Mingana says, but it can mean ascetic, and can mean excellent, so the
difficulty is to know which meaning was intended by the translator from
Arabic into Syriac.
