On the Morrow of the Sabbath

There can be no doubt that Mary Magdalene discovered the Resurrection on the morning of the first day of the week, not the morning of the Sabbath. All four Gospels are explicit, though they all use different wording. Some people have been misled by the translated phrase “the morrow of the Sabbath” in one place, but the morrow is not the same as the morn, and the Greek is explicit.

As to the time of the Resurrection, I have to agree that theologically there is no obvious objection to taking it to have been at dawn on the day of the Sabbath, but I might have missed something. I still need to think about this.

It still remains true that this Sabbath was not perfect, because it was the day during which perfection occurred. This is what differentiates it from the first Sabbath of creation. Thus the eighth day is needed, because this is the first whole day of perfection, or the day of looking back on the process of perfecting.
