Moses the Apostle

The Birth of the Child [the word for child is unusual], a liturgical poem in Aramaic by Ismâ‘îl ar-Rumayḥi of Damascus composed in 1537 but actually derived from an earlier poem in Aramaic composed by ‘Abdallâh bin Salâmah in the 14th c. which is part of the service for Tabernacles (Succot) to this day. This in turn has earlier ancestors going back forever. At the end of the poem the reciter says to the congregation in Aramaic “Acknowledge the Apostle” תדען שליחה I don’t know yet if these words occur at the end of the version used in the Tabernacles service.
