On the Two Figures Blowing Shofars on the Throne of St. Mark

The one on the right is Aaron. His rod has sprouted. What’s more, from the thick bunched up foliage it is a myrtle that is growing. The one on the left is Moses. He rests the weight of two tablets held horizontally on his forearm. (You can only see one of them).

The human figure holds something fairly heavy as well. I think he holds the spine of a book in the right hand and supports the weight on the top of the right hand. I think it is the new Torah, the Gospel.

It is definitely the bottom edge of a tablet held horizontally. The reason the edge doesn’t seem straight is that the ball of the hand and the thumb cover part of it. The tablet finishes at the end of the thumb. I think one tablet must be behind the other.

Here are the figures for the number of pinions on each Seraph’s wings.
Bull. Top pair 8 viewer’s left and 7 viewer’s right. Middle pair 7 and 8. Bottom pair 8 and 7. Total 23 on the left and 22 on the right (the viewer’s left and right).
Lion. Top pair 6 and 7. Middle pair 8 and 7. Bottom pair. Very hard to tell if 8 and 8 or 7 and 8 but I think 8 and 8. Total left 22 total right 22.
Human. Top pair 8 and 8. Middle pair 7 and 7. Bottom pair 7 and 7. Total left 22 right 22.
Eagle. Top pair 7 and 7. Middle pair 7 and 8. Bottom pair 6 and 7. Total left 20 right 22.

I suppose the 22 is the no. of letters of the alphabet. 23 is the next odd number above 22 and 20 is the next even no. below it. I suppose what is meant is similar to the Kabbalistic metaphor of a previously invisible 23rd letter appearing in the Torah changing the meaning throughout, and abolishing all distinctions of clean and unclean or forbidden and permitted.
