On What Agrippa Was Trying to Accomplish With Christianity
What was INTENDED to happen? Not the destruction of the Temple, because Agrippa tries to stop it from happening. Titus does not want it to happen. Therefore only the end of the sacrificial service in the new dispensation was intended. What brought the destruction about? According to the Rabbinic texts, misuse of the religion, and senseless internal fighting. According to the Hegesippus-Yosippon tradition, mainly the Jews’ misanthropy, as well as the other two reasons. When the Temple was destroyed, the new dispensation came about, but catastrophically. There could no longer be an anointed High Priest or anointed King because there was no Sanctuary. The anointed King was no more. But Agrippa remained ruler for many years afterwards, consolidating the new dispensation.
I think there is a genuine tradition about what was intended in Christian theology. The Temple was not meant to be destroyed, but it became inevitable. The new dispensation came about, but catastrophically.
I think this means ch. IX of Daniel must have been re-edited after 70 AD.
This line of argument needs development and refinement.
Why is the end of the Anointed Ruler predicted in Daniel? When was the verse written?
