On the Yosippon

On the reference to Jesus in Josephus: Pines has shown that it is absolutely certain that the paragraph on Jesus was written by Josephus, not by an editor. He has proven with equal certainty that the wording of the passage as found in all extant Greek mss. of Josephus has later been deliberately changed by editors. He has proven all this more convincingly than has ever been done before. There is no difficulty from the Slavic passage being in the “War”. There is a lot of evidence in the Greek mss. for borrowing of this passage from the “Antiquities” into the “War”. All that remains now is to determine the DETAIL of the original wording, that is, whether the Arabic or the Slavic or Jerome’s quote are closest to the original.

I will let you have the information on the Hebrew Josephus over the next couple of days. You might get the information in separate bits, as I find time, but it will come. I do understand the need for haste.

I will have a look at the Seder ‘Olam Rabba as well.
