Relevant Article By Reinhard Pummer

Here is the page on Pummer from Ottawa University. There is a list of his publications. Two articles are relevant, “Foot-soldiers of the Byzantines etc.” (2004), and ‘Samaritanism in Caesarea Maritima” (2000). My guess is that the two articles don’t duplicate each other. The Moslem take-over of Palestine was only a conquest in regard to Caesarea and some other fortified coastal towns. These were conquered over a period of years (nine years as I remember). Most of the country had welcomed the Moslems in as soon as they arrived in the fourth year of the Hijrah. They were probably invited to come. That is the clear evidence of the Continuation of Abul-Fatah.

The Continuation to Abul-Fatah was published with a remarkably bad English translation but with useful historical notes in 2002. I will send you my review when it appears in a few months. (It is in the press). You need to have this book, but you will have to go through it and copy the corrections into the margin from my review.
