An Interesting Reference in Maimonides

In the Epistle to the Jews of Yemen, Maimonides highlights one of the presumptive reasons for Muslim hatred of Jews:

Inasmuch as the Muslims could not find a single proof in the entire Bible nor a reference or possible allusion to their prophet which they could utilize, they were compelled to accuse us saying, “You have altered the text of the Torah, and expunged every trace of the name of Mohammed therefrom.” They could find nothing stronger than this ignominious argument.

Of course this makes no sense as a criticism of Judaism but if it was applied as part of an Islamic attack against Christians and then was carelessly applied to Jews too there is something to this understanding. The Christian understanding of 'the Paraclete' is laughable. The Muslim application of the Jewish title Menachem to the figure of the Paraclete in the gospel is in fact more correct that the Catholic interest in spiritual 'winds.'

We just have to think about what we read which is often hard in a polemical environment.
