Russian experts to restore an oldest Egyptian church

Moscow, October 13, Interfax - Russian restorers are involved in restoring Coptic churches of Egypt.

They are entrusted to restore the Holy Virgin Church in Cairo also known as the Hanging or Suspended Church.

Russian experts work under direction of Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, the Vesti TV has reported on Tuesday.

History of the Holy Virgin Church dates back to the 3rd century. The Hanging Church is named for its location above a gatehouse of the Babylon Fortress, the Roman fortification in Coptic district of the Egyptian capital.

According to the Director of the Egypt Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Galina Belova, Russian archeologists have recently made many serious discoveries in Egypt.
