Egyptian Gospel Readings from the Pistis Sophia
I have been fascinated by the Pistis Sophia - an important Gnostic text, possibly written as early as the Second Century - for most of my adult life. I bought my English Translation back when I was a teenager. The five remaining copies, which scholars place in the Fifth or Sixth Centuries, relate the Gnostic teachings of the transfigured Jesus to the assembled disciples (including his mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Martha), when the risen Christ had accomplished eleven years speaking with his disciples. In it the complex structures and hierarchies of heaven familiar in Gnostic teachings are revealed.
Even though there is layer after layer of 'new revelations' from Jesus, the earliest parts of the text are basically a question and answer between Mary and Jesus laying out the original interpretation of the gospel. The repeated mention of the 'twenty four invisibles' makes clear in my mind that the text derived its origin from Marcosian circles. Yet for the moment we are only interested in laying out the direct citations from the Egpytian gospel from the conversations between Mary and Jesus:

for this cause then, my Lord Jesus, thou hast said unto us: 'Who hath ears to hear, let him hear,' [Book One Chapter 18]
For this cause I said unto you aforetime: 'I have shortened the times because of my elect; otherwise no soul would have been able to be saved.' [Book One Chapter 27]

Notice how the Diatessaron is closer to the Pistis Sophia gospel than Matthew:
