Elton John on Secret Mark

This is the third in a series of posts at this blog with 'celebrity takes' on Secret Mark. Previously we featured Matthew McConaughey's defense of the allusion to nakedness in the document. Now we will develop a theme in a recent interview with Elton John.

I have heard all sorts of claims about Morton Smith's 'homosexuality' based mostly on (a) his interpretation of Secret Mark and (b) his personal eccentricity. I have never seen any proof for the assertion that Morton Smith engaged in sodomy or homosexual sex of any kind. No homosexual lovers of Morton Smith have ever been uncovered, no prostitutes - not even so much as a used condom.

Morton Smith is gay almost by default - i.e. he was 'crazy' and never married, never had kids.

Yet when these conservative scholars use these sorts of arguments to 'accuse' Smith of being a homosexual they better be careful. For these are the same arguments that Jews have (secretly) been using to cast dispersions of this sort on the founder of Christianity.

I know. I grew up hearing all sorts of stories about Jesus the fagela. I don't believe a word of it but I bring them up to draw attention to the dangers of using the kind of arguments employed by the hoaxers.

So it is that when Elton John comes to the conclusion that Jesus was a homosexual, we should expect the same people who accept Morton Smith's homosexuality would AGREE with the famed singer when he declares in a recent Parade interview:

I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East — you’re as good as dead.

They accept the idea that ONE GUY that never married and never had kids 'must be gay' so why not the other? Oh, because it's not true? Since when does a little thing like truth have to do with the claims about the Mar Saba document being a forgery ...
