Read an Article I Started at Another Blog

I've been very busy tonight but in the last couple of days I read one of the best articles in some time on the subject of earliest Christianity - Thomas Schmidt, “Jesus’ Triumphal March to Crucifixion: The Sacred Way as Roman Procession,” Bible Review, Feb 97: 30-37.  This guy just hits the nail like no one else.  Anyone trying to make sense of the gospel in its original historical context has to read his article at least twice.  His point is that the Passion of Christ is consciously laid out like a Roman triumphal possession.  The next step of course is why it is that way.  Nevertheless the preliminary work has already been done by Schmidt.
