On the Idea that the Law was a 'Yoke'

This understanding is at the heart of several important scriptural verses including Romans 7:6:

But now we are delivered from the law that being dead wherein we were held (kateichometha) that we should serve in newness of spirit and not in the oldness of the letter (KJV)

The verb 'katechon' is used in countless Greek texts to mean 'bridle' as a yoke is placed on cattle or horses.
