'Marcion' Apparently Means 'Gay' in Contemporary Roman Catholic Parlance

Recently, President Obama appointed a gay man as an ambassador to the Dominican Republic, a largely conservative Roman Catholic country on the island of Hispaniola. James “Wally” Brewster is the gay ambassador appointed to the country as the US ambassador. Obama has also appointed gay ambassadors to Denmark and Spain. All three have to be confirmed by the Senate for it to be official. However, the Roman Catholic Church in the Dominican Republic under the leadership of Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez is unhappy with Ambassador Brewster being a representative of his country because he is openly gay. Indeed, Rodriguez called Brewster a derogatory word, a “marcion,” which is the equivalent to “faggot” or “wussy” according to The Daily Mail.
Of course the word here is maricon - not Marcion.  These anglophones don't realize the difference of letter order ...
