45. Tertullian treats the four gospels as a single literary unit
Since Tertullian charged that Marcion removed passages which "were never in Luke, but belonged to Mark or Matthew [he] could not have used Luke's Gospel for comparison while writing'' Adv Marc .4 According to Ward, while Tertullian should have used Luke to compare with Marcion's Gospel, he actually employed either Matthew or Mark. (2) Some scholars have suggested that Tertullian treated all four Gospels as a single unit. [Second Century 1991 p. 123]
