... [the Martyrdom of Peter I] includes useful topographical information even if the events described were added later (Pearson loc cit n 1 143; Vivian op cit 65-66). Peter is described as 'going down' to the tomb of St. Mark (Acts of St Peter 11 - 14, ed Devos loc cit 171 - 3) which also suggests it was rock cut.
