Watch Out Using the 'New Schürer' History of the Jewish People

Be careful in using the “New Schürer” i.e. the late 20th c. revision edited by Millar and Vermes. The final editing was done by Vermes’s wife, Pamela Vermes, described as “an expert on Martin Buber”, and she INTRODUCED mistakes by following earlier errors. There is a mistake of one year in the dating of the end of Pontius Pilate’s administration, because she altered the text by reference to a useful late 19th c. Bible encyclopaedia. The correct date are found in Boid's unpublished monograph A Pair of Ancient Samaritan Eschatologies. Look in the subject index.
