On the Sabaeans

It seems I will have to read further on the Sabaeans. I have all the Arabic sources in the standard collection and study DIE SSABIER UND DER SSABISMUS by Daniel Chwolsohn (2 vols., St. Petersburg, 1895). I will have to find time to read this thoroughly. There is also a modern study attempting to work out why the word Sabaeans in the Koran refers to both the people in Haran and the Mandaeans. I think the author concludes that there is a historical relationship and that the Mandaean assertion to have passed from the Trans-Jordan (and perhaps other parts of Palestine) to Iraq by way of Haran is accurate. I have not yet read this study but it is sitting on my shelves waiting.
