On the Rabbinic Cycle of Shemittahs

I will try to work out the Rabbinic sabbatical and Jubilee years over the next week, using a more certain method than the ones tried so far.

Please give me your source for the figures from Seder ‘Olam Zuta (or Zutra) as soon as possible. I need to see the exact wording.

Here is the difficulty. You have seen for yourself that the Samaritan system (which I will call S) and the system of the Book of Jubilees (which I will call J) have a linkage between counting before and after Entry. The difference of 7³ years is due to the different figures in Genesis V and X. You are right in pointing out that there is still systematic linkage. The Rabbinic system is secondary. This is because of very very late change to the chronology of Joshua and Judges, whereby centuries are added. To appreciate how late this is, note that the MT of Kings won’t support the addition. See the last part of my article The Transmission of the Samaritan Joshua-Judges.

I think I will find that the Rabbinic Jubilee years coincide with the Samaritan ones, because the additional years are a multiple of 49.
