The Sixteenth Proof that Clement of the Alexandrian See of St. Mark Was a Prominent Leader of the Tradition Irenaeus Identifies as 'Marcosian'
16. Irenaeus writes that the Marcosians say that "contained in Himself [was] the entire number of the elements, which the descent of the dove (who is Alpha and Omega) made clearly manifest, when He came to be baptized; for the number of the dove is eight hundred and one." [AH i.14.6]
Clement of Alexandria writes that "the sensible types of these [see above], then, are the sounds we pronounce. Thus the Lord Himself is called "Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end," " by whom all things were made, and without whom not even one thing was made." [Stromata vi.6]
