The Nineteenth Proof that Clement of the Alexandrian See of St. Mark Was a Prominent Leader of the Sect Irenaeus Identifies as the 'Marcosians'

19. Irenaeus reports that the Marcosians hold that "as the seven powers glorify the Word, so also does the complaining soul of infants. For this reason, too, David said: "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings Thou hast perfected praise;" and again: "The heavens declare the glory of God." Hence also it comes to pass, that when the soul is involved in difficulties and distresses, for its own relief it calls out, "Oh" (i.e. W = vav the sixth letter), in honour of the letter in question, so that its cognate soul above may recognise [its distress], and send down to it relief." [AH i.14.6]

Clement of Alexandrian writes that "he who became faithful to Him who is the Episimon, so as straightway to receive the rest of the Lord's inheritance. Some such thing also is indicated by the sixth hour in the scheme of salvation, in which man was perfected. Further, of the eight, the intermediates are seven; and of the seven, the intervals are shown to be six. For that is another ground, in which seven glorifies eight, and "the heavens declare to the heavens the glory of God." [Stromata vi.6]
