The Mystical Revelation of Chapter Eight of Book Two of the Mimar Marqe
We just cited the whole English translation of Book Two Chapter Eight. I am very tired tonight but I should point out Marqe's habit of developing 'lists of things' in the crossing of the Red Sea narrative so he can use the resulting numbers to spell out something of great mystical significance. He notes that there are:
10 judgements, 6 in the sea, 4 on dry land
yod (10) vav (6) dalet (4) = yod.
Marqe has done this before in Book Two (cf. chapter 3 where 'Gaius' is spelled out). Here Marqe is saying that the wonder of the crossing of the sea was wrought by the power of the tenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet yod, the first letter of the Tetragrammaton.
