Dimitri Gutas of Yale on the Survival of Ancient Historical Texts in Arabic

Dimitri Gutas of Yale is the American doyen for Graeco-Arabic textual transmission who continued the work of Franz Rosenthal in the same area.  I asked him the following questions:

Has an Arabic text of Livy ever been recovered?  NO. No Latin text was translated into Arabic other than Orosius.

What ancient Greek or Latin historical writings survive in Arabic? NONE.

Well, that takes care of a lot of work ...
