Scott Brown and Allan J Pantuck Have Some New and Important Evidence (Again) Against Carlson's Methodology at Timo's Site

Here's the link to one of the most important articles on any blog ANYWHERE this month. As an aside, doesn't it say a lot that they would chose to publish this on line. One wonders if academic journals are becoming obsolete in an age where change happens in the world at lightning speed. Indeed I have noticed that a number of journals now ONLY publish print on demand articles.

In any event, the mensch in me is beginning to feel sorry for Stephen. I honestly DON'T enjoy piling on against Carlson.  I personally don't even like to lump Carlson with his supporters (i.e. the conservatives) who use his claims to disqualify the Mar Saba document just because it offends their presuppositions.  Carlson will be a great scholar.  He has done a great deal in terms of placing ancient sources on line and is an extreme intelligent man.

I always believe in giving someone a second chance.  As such I just wish he would come out admit his mistakes - even demonstrate that they were honest mistakes - and let us all move on and incorporate the Letter to Theodore into our understanding of the earliest period of Christianity.

His public metanoia would effectively end any serious consideration of the text as a forgery.

I really hope that we don't pile on our attacks against him and force him into a corner. I hope we can all leave him some wiggle room and avoid gloating that yet another proof pointing sloppy scholarship (or worse) behind his Gospel Hoax.

Now's the time for him to come forward and just say 'I was wrong.'
