† Διαθήκη ἐξῃρωμένη ἐκτεθείσα παρὰ γρηγορίου καθηγουμένου τοῦ ἁγίου φιλίππου τοῦ ἐν δεμένοις.
Ἔγωγε ὁ προρρηθεὶς γρηγόριος ὁ ἐν τῷ ὄρει προτάξας τὸν τίμιον σταυρόν,
τὸ τοῦ θανάτου τέλος φοβούμενος μὴ πῶς ἀδιάθετόν με καταλήψῃ καὶ τοῖς
ἐκεῖσε ἀποπέμψῃ κενὸν καὶ ἀφρόντιστον ὡς πολλοῖς πολλάκις συνέβη καὶ ἐγέ-
νετο, ὅθεν πρὸ γὲ πάντων ἐκτίθημι περὶ τοῦ μοναστηρίου τοῦ ἁγίου φιλίππου
καὶ τῶν μετοχίων αὐτοῦ, ὧν οἰκοδόμος ἐγενόμην ἐγὼ ὁ ἁμαρτωλός, βοήθειαν
ἔχων καὶ συνεργὸν τὸν μέγαν ἐκεῖνον ἰωκέριον κόμητα καὶ τὴν σύζυγον αὐτοῦ
καὶ αὐθέντραν καὶ κυρίαν ἀδελασίαν, ἥτις ἔμεινεν ὄπισθεν τοῦ μακαρίου κό-
μητος μετὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς τοῦ νέου κόμητος καὶ αὐθέντου συμεῶνος καὶ
τοῦ μικροῦ ἰωκερίου τοῦ αὐταδέλφου αὐτοῦ σκέποντες καὶ περιφρουροῦντες τὴν
ποίμνην μετὰ τῶν μετοχίων αὐτῆς καθὼς ὁ μακάριος κόμης ὁ μέγας· τὰ δὲ
μετόχια τοῦ ἁγίου φιλίππου εἰσὶ ταῦτα· πρῶτον ὁ ἅγιος ἀρχάγγελος ὁ πλῆ-
σίον καὶ ὁ ἅγιος νικόλαος καὶ ὁ ἅγιος πέτρος καὶ ὁ μάρτυρ θαλλελαῖος καὶ
ὁ ἀπόστολος μάρκος καὶ ἡ θεοτόκος τοῦ μανιακοῦ καὶ ἕτερος ἅγιος πέτρος καὶ
οἱ ἅγιοι φιλάδελφοι, οἵτινες ὡς εἶπον ᾠκοδομήθησαν ἐξ ἀναλωμάτων οἰκείων
τοῦ μακαρίου κόμητος καὶ τῆς κυρίας ἀδελασίας καὶ τῶν τέκνων αὐτῶν καὶ
τοῦ κυρ νικολάου τοῦ μυστολόγου τοῦ μακαρίου κόμητος καὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ
καὶ νέου αὐθέντου συμεῶνος, ὅστινος ἡ βοήθεια ἀντὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ὑπάρ-
χει εἰς τὰς πᾶσας ἐκκλησίας μετὰ τῆς οἰκίας μητρός, ὧντινων ἡ εὐχὴ ἀκάθυ-
στος ὑπάρχει ἐκ τῶν πιστῶν ἐκκλησιῶν καὶ πάντων τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν ἀ-

ἀφιερωσάντων εἰς τὰς μονὰς ταύτας. ὅθεν καὶ διατίθεμαι ὁμοίως καθὼς καὶ εἰς
τὴν ἑτέραν μεγάλην διαθήκην ἵνα ὦσι τὰ προειρημένα μετόχια ἀσάλευτα ἐκ
τῆς μεγάλης μονῆς τοῦ ἁγίου φιλίππου καὶ τὸν ἡγούμενον ὃν ἔθεμην ἀντὶ
ἐμοῦ καθὼς καὶ ἡ αὐθέντρα μετὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς τοῦ νέου κόμητος ὥρισεν.
εἰ δέ τις εὑρεθῇ ἐμπόδιον ποιῶν εἰς τὰ μετόχια τοῦ μὴ εἶναι εἰς τὴν μεγα-
λην μονήν, ἀλλὰ καὶ εἴ τις ἀπόπαυσιν ποιήσατο τοῦ μὴ εὔχεσθαι τοῦ μακα-
ρίου κόμητος καὶ τῆς κυρίας ἀδελασίας καὶ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτῆς καὶ τοῦ κυρ νι-
κολάου καὶ πάντων τῶν ἀγαπώντων τὰς πιστὰς ἐκκλησίας, ἔχετω τὴν ἀρὰν
παρὰ τῶν ἁγίων πατέρων καὶ παρ’ ἐμοῦ τοῦ ἁμαρτωλοῦ ἐπιτίμιον, ἀλλὰ ἵνα
εὔχωνται αὐτοῖς ἕως αἱ ἐκκλησίαι ὑπάρχουσιν ὅτι οὗτοι ἀνέστησαν τὰς ἐκκλη-
σίας ταύτας διὰ εὐχήν τε καὶ ἐπιτυχίαν τῶν ἀγαθῶν ἐκείνων ὡς κύριος ὁ θεὸς

ἰλεήσει καὶ ὁδηγήσει, καὶ ὡς ἐμὲ ἠγάπησαν ἵνα καὶ τὸν ἀντὶ ἐμοῦ ἀγαπή-
σουσιν ὁ αὐθέντης ὁ μικρὸς καὶ κόμης καὶ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ ἡ κυρία λέγω δὴ
τὸν ἡγούμενον ἐν ἀρίχα εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, καὶ μὴ ἀφήσουσιν εἰς τὴν ἐγκα-
τάλειψιν τὰς τοιαύτας ἐκκλησίας. ἐγράφη ἡ ταύτη διαθήκη παρὰ λουκᾶ ἐπι-
σκόπου ἀσύλων μηνὶ μαΐω ἰνδικτιῶνος ιγ’ ἔτους ςχ.ιγ’.

† “Extracted will (testament), published/issued by Gregory, abbot of Saint Philip in Demenoi.”
“I, the aforesaid Gregory, in the mountain (monastic place), having set the precious Cross at the head (of this document), fearing the end of death lest it overtake me without a testament and send me off there empty and unprovided-for, as has happened and come to pass to many many times, for which reason before everything else I set forth concerning the monastery of Saint Philip and its dependencies (metochia), of which I, the sinner, became the builder, having as help and co-worker that great lord Iokerios, count, and his wife, the lady and mistress Adelasia, who remained after the blessed count, together with her son, the new count and lord Symeon, and the little Iokerios his own brother, sheltering and guarding the flock together with its dependencies just as the blessed great count [did].
And the dependencies of Saint Philip are these: first, Saint Archangel the one nearby; and Saint Nicholas; and Saint Peter; and the martyr Thallelaios; and the apostle Mark; and the Mother of God “of Maniakos”; and another Saint Peter; and the Holy Philadelphoi—who, as I said, were built from the private expenditures of the blessed count and of Lady Adelasia and of their children, and of lord Nicholas the mystologos of the blessed count and of his son, the new lord Symeon—whose help, in place of his father, extends to all the churches together with the household of his mother; and the prayer on behalf of these is unceasing from the faithful churches and from all the rulers who have made dedications to these monasteries.
Therefore I likewise make disposition, just as also in the other great will, that the aforesaid dependencies may remain immovable (secure) under the great monastery of Saint Philip, and [that] the abbot whom I set in my place [may remain], as also the lady with her son the new count appointed. And if anyone be found making an obstacle regarding the dependencies, so that they should not belong to the great monastery, or if anyone should make a cessation of not praying for the blessed count and Lady Adelasia and her sons and lord Nicholas and all who love the faithful churches—let him have the curse from the holy fathers and, from me the sinner, a penalty; but [rather] let them pray for them as long as the churches exist, because these raised up these churches through prayer and the achieving of those good things, as the Lord God will show mercy and guide.
And as they loved me, so also let them love the one [set] in my place: the little lord and count and his mother, the lady—I mean, indeed, the abbot in Aricha in the church—and let them not allow such churches to fall into abandonment. This will was written by Luke, bishop of Asylos, in the month of May, of the 13th indiction, year 6,313.”
